Testa & Weiser has developed a unique business model that enables work with Fortune 500 corporations, start-ups, institutions, and universities. Recent collaborations include projects with Stäubli Robotics, NASA/Ames Research Center, Swiss Federal Laboratories for Material Science and Technology (EMPA), ACCIONA Infraestructuras, 3D Systems Inc., ARUP Consulting Engineers, Herman Miller Inc., HEXCEL, Álvaro Siza and Gehry Partners.
Key projects include Kings Road Apparel Shop (2000); Carbon Tower Prototype (2004); Strand Tower and Precursors (2005); NASA OMEGA (2009) and XNRG (2010) renewable energy infrastructure; FACTORe, manufacturing plant for PSA Peugeot Citroen (2015); ZXT, housing and mixed-use prototype for Shenzhen (2016); Gameboard, a design platform and graphical user interface (2019); AMGEN 1000 Research Campus (2019); Non-Standard Graphics (2019), new conventions for representation of architecture; and Model Homes (2021), a 21st century prototype dwelling.
Testa & Weiser projects have been exhibited worldwide including installations in New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Shanghai, London, Paris, and Montreal. The studio is featured in numerous publications including The New York Times, The New Yorker, AD Architectural Design Magazine, and The London Times, as well as books Extreme Textiles: Designing for High Performance; Skin + Bones: Parallel Practices in Fashion and Architecture; and FORM+CODE in Design, Art, and Architecture. Testa & Weiser work was exhibited as one of twenty-five groundbreaking architectural projects of the early 21st century in the group show ‘Archeology of the Digital’ (2016-17) and acquired as part of the permanent collection of the Canadian Center for Architecture (CCA).
Peter Testa is founding partner and Design Principal at Testa & Weiser and co-founder of the MIT Emergent Design Group (EDG). Before establishing Testa & Weiser he was Principal-in-Charge with Pritzker Prize winner Álvaro Siza. Testa’s work is exhibited at leading museums and galleries worldwide including recent shows in New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Tokyo, Beijing, Copenhagen; and is part of the permanent collection of the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA). Projects and writings are published in international art, architecture, design, and scientific journal as well as major newspapers. In 2017 Testa completed the book ‘Robot House: Instrumentation, Representation, Fabrication’ with Thames & Hudson.
From 1991-97 he was Associate Professor at Columbia University GSAPP, and Visiting Design Critic at Harvard University Graduate School of Design. From 1997-02 he was Associate Professor of Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Since 2004 he has been a member of the SCI-Arc Design Faculty. In 2008 he was appointed Esherick Professor of Architecture, an endowed chair at the University of California. In 2020 he received the DAAD German Academic Exchange Award and was Visiting Professor at the Städelschule Art Academy (SAC) Frankfurt. Testa holds a B.Arch; and S.M.Arch.S. (History/Theory) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and is a Registered Architect in California (NCARB Certificate). Honors include the MIT Innovation Award, Three Graham Foundation awards, and the Design Arts Award of the National Endowment for the Arts.
Devyn Weiser is founding partner and Design Principal at Testa & Weiser and co-founder of the MIT Emergent Design Group (EDG). At Testa & Weiser she leads a wide range of projects from industrial design to architecture. Weiser’s work has been exhibited at leading museums and galleries worldwide and is part of the permanent collection in the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA). Awards include the Graham Foundation Award and the Municipal Art Society of New York Design Award. Weiser is the author of more than a dozen research papers on architecture, design, and computation. Her work is regularly published in international art, architecture, design, engineering, and scientific journals as well as major newspapers including the New York Times, Washington Post, and The Times of London.
Weiser has been Visiting Critic at the Rhode Island School of Design, University of Pennsylvania, and Städelschule Art Academy (SAC) Frankfurt. In 2005 she joined Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) Design Faculty and currently serves as Visual Studies Coordinator. Weiser holds both a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) and Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) with honors from the Rhode Island School of Design where she received the AIA Henry Adams Certificate; and Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design (M.S.AAD) from Columbia University, Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation.
